This home is an exceptional residence reminiscent of the grand European country houses. A Jim Pearson / JF Brennan design and featured in House & Home magazine, it is notable for its bespoke craftsmanship and period materials—from the antique chimney pots dotting the roofline to the Texas limestone fireplace with imported Belgian fire throw dominating the Great Room.

The local limestone exterior and cedar shake roof belie a home built in harmony with nature—in the most rejuvenating of settings.

AN EXCEPTIONAL  RESIDENCE

Step into the grand foyer and your first impressions are space, light and the warmth of natural materials. The imported floor tiles were salvaged from the ceiling of a country church in France, while wall and ceiling planks and beams come from closer to home.

In all directions generous ceiling heights help balance the scale of the home.

At 42x28 ft, the Great Room is great indeed—ideal for dinner parties and large gatherings. It’s bookended by an ample gourmet kitchen and massive gas range at one end and an imposing limestone fireplace at the other. The chimney rises 26 feet to a vaulted ceiling of locally-sourced Canadian beams built using period construction techniques and finishes. The floor consists of broad planks of original-growth North American pitch pine hardwood (salvaged from 19th century buildings in the UK)

This home is built for scalable entertaining—it has seen intimate farm-to-table dinners in the three-season outdoor room, small-group retreats, music salons for 50 people, as well as large-scale events. It has played host to entertainers such as world-renowned flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook, top UK jazz vocalist Ian Shaw, award-winning Canadian bassist Dave Young, and many others.

Embodying the very best of a period mansion house the kitchen is a spectacular focal point of the Great Room. Featuring European sourced and hand finished cabinetry, plenty of counter space and an oversized hand painted island. A limestone surround perfectly frames the Lacanche gas stove. Sub Zero and Miele accompanying appliances as expected.

An adjacent 35x22-ft Outdoor Room virtually doubles the size of the Great Room. A built-in BBQ, a wet bar clad in stone and wood and built-in seating are perfect for relaxed evenings with friends and family, while heated stone floors and a limestone fireplace make entertaining practical for three seasons of the year surrounded by nature. Enjoy epicurean delights with friends and family, or spend indulgent afternoons stretched out with a good book.

Most every room on the first floor lets out directly onto extensive, carefully architected and landscaped English style grounds, including two separate leafy bowers and a sun deck, all on broad flagstone patios. There is also a lookout deck adjacent to a natural spring that trickles down to the pond as well as a pond side fire pit.

Sitting under vine-covered trellises in the summer heat is a slice of heaven. Stroll across the lawn for a dip in the pond, or try your hand at catching a meal of Striped Bass.
